The Seed Certification Service Centre (SCSC) is one of the five sub-units operating under the Seed Certification and Plant Protection Centre (SCPPC) of the Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka. The SCSC plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and authenticity of seeds produced and distributed within the country.

Under the Seed Act of Sri Lanka, any farmer engaged in seed production must obtain certification through an SCSC. Once registered, a farmer receives a Seed Certification Certificate valid for two years.

This certification is mandatory for farmers involved in:

  • Seed importation
  • Seed production
  • Planting material production
  • Seed merchandising

Several SCSCs are established across Sri Lanka under SCPPC supervision to provide seed certification, quality control, and technical advisory services to farmers in various regions. The primary objective of the SCSC is to promote the use of high-quality certified seeds, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen national food security through effective seed certification and regulatory practices.
